Chemical Leak After Truck Crash on Route 202 in Wilmington, DE
Wilmington, DE (October 7, 2026) – A tractor-trailer driver was taken to a hospital after a crash on Route 202 just north of I-95 Wednesday morning, according to WDEL.
The crash happened around 11 a.m. near the interchange, WDEL reported. The truck was carrying a 55-gallon barrel of formaldehyde, and paramedics said the chemical leaked onto the roadway after the collision.
DNREC crews responded to the scene to clean up the leaked formaldehyde. The cleanup led to closures of the ramps from I-95 to Route 202 northbound in both directions, causing major delays in the Fairfax area through the afternoon.
New Castle County paramedics said the driver, a 59-year-old man, was listed in stable condition. Delaware State Police are investigating the cause of the crash, and no additional details had been released as of Wednesday afternoon.
