Philip T. Edwards

Overview

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1976, Philip Edwards attended the College of Charleston in South Carolina. After earning his undergraduate degree, Mr. Edwards attended Widener Law School in Delaware, graduating cum laude. While at Widener, Mr. Edwards was named to the law school's Moot Court Honor Society, and awarded the Order of the Barristers for excellence in courtroom advocacy. He also served as a law clerk intern for Justice Joseph T. Walsh of the Delaware Supreme Court, and clerked at the Delaware County Pennsylvania District Attorney's Office. During his time with the Delaware Supreme Court, Mr. Edwards drafted bench memoranda and Court opinions on issues ranging from complex corporate governance to death penalty appeals. As a clerk for the Delaware County District Attorney's office, Mr. Edwards was responsible for prosecuting hundreds of misdemeanor and felony criminal cases.

Following law school, Mr. Edwards joined the law firm of Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman and Dicker in New York. There he litigated complex medical malpractice cases, including multimillion dollar disputes involving New York City's largest hospitals.

In 2003, Mr. Edwards joined Murphy & Landon, immediately establishing a record of dramatic success. In addition to trying and winning several personal injury trials, Mr. Edwards recently joined partner Frank Murphy in securing a $2.4 million plaintiffs' verdict in Caldwell v. White, a complex medical malpractice case, and also joined partner Roger Landon in securing a $2.8 million verdict in Gates v. Texaco, a benzene chemical exposure case. He also helped bring about a confidential multimillion dollar settlement in a consumer insurance dispute, and successfully prosecuted multiple auto insurance claims against Nationwide.  In 2007, Mr. Edwards secured a confidential six figure settlement for a victim of police brutality. In June, 2008, Mr. Edwards secured a $1.25 million settlement for a client in a medical malpractice case for vocal chord paralysis.  In 2012, Mr. Edwards achieved a confidential large six figure property damage settlement related to a home explosion from a gas leak.  In 2014, Mr. Edwards secured a confidential multimillion dollar settlement in a medical negligence action.  Also in 2014, Mr. Edwards secured a $3,425,515 plaintiff’s verdict against a Delaware physician for performing unnecessary surgery resulting in a client suffering CRPS.  Most recently, Mr. Edwards joined the Motley Rice firm in securing the landmark $100 million verdict against defendant Boston Scientific Corporation related to the sale and distribution of its vaginal mesh products.  The $100 million verdict achieved in Barba v. Boston Scientific Corporation is the largest personal injury verdict in Delaware.  While Mr. Edwards’ practice is extremely diverse, the goal in each and every case, no matter how big or small, remains the same:  TO WIN.

Mr. Edward's practice focuses on personal injury, medical malpractice and insurance disputes. He is already recognized as one of the leading lawyers in the Delaware Bar.
