Bethany Beach, DE – Bicyclist Airlifted Following Crash on Coastal Hwy.

Bethany Beach, DE (October 4, 2023) – Police in Bethany Beach responded to the scene of a collision involving a bicyclist on Tuesday morning, October 3rd. The crash happened just before 11:00 a.m. on Coastal Highway, just south of the Indian Inlet Bridge.

The Bethany Beach Fire Company, along with Sussex County Paramedics, and LifeNet all arrived at the scene. When officials responded, they found a male bicyclist in the roadway. The man had been struck by a car and was suffering from serious injuries. He was transported by helicopter in serious condition with life-threatening injuries. His identity has not been released at this time. There is no word on whether anyone else was hurt.

At this time, police have not released any details surrounding the nature of the crash or how it occurred. The road was closed for several hours causing delays near the scene. Motorists were advised to find alternate routes of travel if possible.
