Frederica, DE (May 31, 2022) – One person is dead and another is seriously hurt following a major car accident in Frederica on Sunday, May 29th. The crash occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Bowers Beach Road, just north of Skeeter Neck Road.
Police say that a 26-year-old man was traveling westbound on Bowers Beach when he crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with an eastbound Volkswagen Tiguan. The driver of the Tiguan, a 69-year-old Lewes man, suffered critical injuries as a result of the accident. The man’s passenger, a 69-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries. Her identity is not available at this time.
The road was closed for about four hours while police investigated. The 26-year-old man was believed to have been under the influence at the time of the crash. He was later charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, first-degree vehicular assault, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Anyone with information on the collision is asked to contact the Delaware State Police. No additional information has been released at this time.
