Police reported that a Volvo truck-tractor pulling a trailer loaded with vehicles was traveling southbound on the interstate when a Chrysler 200 traveling northbound crossed over the grass median separating the lanes of travel. The Chrysler then collided head-on with the Volvo in the southbound lanes.

Investigators stated that the 19-year-old driver of the Chrysler was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. She was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment, but later succumbed to her injuries. Her name has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
