Newark, DE (August 12, 2022) – The Delaware State Police are investigating after a crash that killed two people in Newark. The accident took place around 10:30 p.m. on Interstate 95 in the area of Churchmans Road.
According to a report from the DSP, a BMW was traveling on I-95 when it became disabled in the middle lane of the roadway. At the same time, a 2017 Freightliner box truck was traveling south on I-95 and entered the middle lane of travel. The box truck collided with the rear of the BMW, pushing it forward towards the shoulder of the road. The box truck then caught fire.
The 37-year-old driver of the BMW and a 27-year-old passenger, both of Maryland, were trapped inside the vehicle and died at the accident scene. The driver of the box truck was not hurt in the collision. No one involved has been identified.
The accident is under investigation by the DSP. No further details are available.
