New Castle, DE - Crash on I-95 at Exit 4 Causes injuries

New Castle, DE (March 30, 2025) – Morning traffic came to a halt on March 29 after a serious accident shut down all lanes on the southbound off-ramp of Interstate 95 at Exit 4. Emergency personnel responded around 9:16 a.m., quickly arriving at the scene to assess the situation and begin treatment for the injured.

Although authorities have not confirmed how many vehicles were involved, at least one person was reported hurt in the crash. First responders treated the injured victim at the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital for additional medical attention. The extent of the injuries has not been disclosed. The off-ramp remained closed for an extended time as police conducted their initial investigation and crews worked to clear the wreckage. Drivers in the area experienced significant delays as traffic was rerouted and congestion spread to nearby roads. Officials have not yet released details about what led up to the incident, and the investigation is still underway.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Delaware

New Castle, DE - Crash on I-95 at Exit 4 Causes injuriesCar crashes in Delaware are not uncommon and remain one of the top causes of injuries across the state. According to the Delaware Department of Transportation, more than 28,000 crashes were reported in a recent year, leading to over 8,000 injuries. Busy corridors like Interstate 95 and other major routes often see heavier volumes of traffic, increasing the likelihood of crashes.

Here’s what you should know about common injuries caused by highway crashes:

  • Whiplash and Soft Tissue Damage: Highway collisions often lead to sudden jolts, even in low-speed crashes. These abrupt movements can cause whiplash, which affects the neck and shoulders, often taking weeks or months to heal. In more severe cases, victims experience long-term pain and mobility issues.
  • Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): TBIs are frequently caused by rapid impacts or sudden stops. Even with airbags and seatbelts, the force of a crash can cause the brain to collide with the skull, leading to memory loss, mood changes, or long-term cognitive challenges.
  • Spinal Cord Injuries: In serious highway collisions, the spine can sustain intense damage. Victims may face herniated discs, nerve damage, or even paralysis. Recovery is often extensive and may require surgery, physical therapy, and long-term care.
  • Internal Organ Injuries: High-speed impacts may result in internal bleeding or damage to vital organs. These injuries often go unnoticed initially, making timely medical evaluation critical after any major crash.
  • Broken Bones: Arms, legs, ribs, and facial bones are particularly vulnerable in a car crash. Some fractures are simple, while others may be complex and require surgery, rehabilitation, or prolonged time off from work.
