Newark, DE (January 3, 2025) – A fatal pedestrian crash occurred early Wednesday morning in Newark, Delaware, leaving one man dead. The incident, reported by the Delaware State Police, happened at approximately 1:14 a.m. on East Chestnut Hill Rd, east of Martindale Dr.
According to the Delaware State Police, a 2013 silver Kia Optima was traveling westbound in the left lane of East Chestnut Hill Rd when a pedestrian, identified as 32-year-old Terron King of New Castle, was walking in the same lane wearing dark-colored clothing. For reasons under investigation, King was directly in the path of the car, and the Kia struck him.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene. King was pronounced dead upon arrival at the scene, and his body was later transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Kia, a 36-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was unharmed, along with his two passengers, a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old, who were also not injured.
The Delaware State Police, with assistance from local fire departments, secured the area, controlling traffic flow and ensuring the safe removal of the vehicles involved. The scene was closed for approximately four hours while authorities conducted an investigation.
