Wilmington, DE (January 5, 2026) – Delaware State Police have identified the man who died in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday evening on South Maryland Avenue near Reamer Avenue in Wilmington. The victim, 29-year-old Isiah Johnson of Wilmington, was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle at the time of the crash.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a Toyota Tacoma was stopped in the left lane of eastbound South Maryland Avenue, waiting to turn onto Reamer Avenue. A Dodge Ram was stopped at the stop sign on southbound Reamer Avenue. Johnson’s motorcycle, traveling westbound in the left lane of South Maryland Avenue, struck the passenger side of the Toyota as it turned. The Toyota then spun and struck the Dodge. Witnesses reported seeing the motorcycle traveling at a high speed before the collision. Emergency units arrived quickly and worked to provide aid at the scene.
Johnson was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. The drivers of the Toyota, a 32-year-old man from Wilmington, and the Dodge, a 66-year-old man from Newark, did not report injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the crash. Police are reviewing traffic camera footage and interviewing witnesses to confirm details.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts remain with those affected as they continue to process this tragic event.
How Can a Motorcycle Crash Affect Riders and Others?
Motorcycle crashes, like the one on South Maryland Avenue, can have severe consequences for riders. Motorcycles offer less protection than cars, making impacts with other vehicles particularly dangerous. According to national statistics, motorcyclists are significantly more likely to be injured or killed in crashes than occupants of passenger vehicles. Even experienced riders are vulnerable to serious injuries during sudden maneuvers or collisions.
Injuries from motorcycle crashes often include broken bones, head trauma, and internal injuries. Even minor collisions can lead to long-term pain, limited mobility, or rehabilitation needs. Riders may not notice all injuries immediately, so timely medical evaluation is critical.
