Georgetown, DE (May 8, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash with a reported entrapment occurred at 16450 County Seat Highway in Georgetown, Delaware, at approximately 5:43 p.m. Georgetown Emergency units responded to the scene, initially preparing for an entrapment situation involving one or more occupants.

What Information Should I Exchange After a Crash in Delaware?Injury Two-Vehicle Crash on County Seat Hwy

After a crash in Delaware, you should exchange key information with the other driver as soon as it is safe to do so. This includes full names, contact details, driver’s license numbers, license plate numbers, vehicle make and model, and insurance policy information.

Delaware law requires drivers involved in a crash that causes injury or property damage to stop at the scene and provide this information to the other party. Leaving the scene of an injury accident without exchanging information is a criminal offense under Delaware law.

If the other driver cannot receive information directly (due to injury, for example) you must report the crash to the nearest police station as soon as possible. Knowing these legal requirements ahead of time helps protect you in the immediate aftermath of any collision.

Beyond exchanging basic details, gathering additional evidence at the scene significantly strengthens any future claim. Use your phone to photograph vehicle positions, road conditions, skid marks, traffic signs, and visible injuries. If witnesses saw the crash happen, collect their names and contact information before they leave.

Insurance adjusters will review the available evidence when assessing your claim. They will look at the police report, photographs, witness statements, and medical records. Providing accurate and complete information from the beginning helps avoid disputes and delays. Avoid giving recorded statements to insurance companies before speaking with a car accident attorney, as early statements can sometimes be used to limit or deny a claim.

Delaware has a two-year statute of limitations for personal injury claims. This means an injured person generally has two years from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit against an at-fault driver. Starting the process early gives you the best chance of building a complete and accurate case.

At Murphy & Landon, we have extensive experience reviewing car accident cases across Delaware and explaining available legal options to those affected by serious collisions. We can walk you through how Delaware’s fault-based system, insurance claims, and filing deadlines may apply to your specific situation.
