Holly Oak, DE (February 22, 2026) – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal head-on collision that occurred on Friday, February 20, along Interstate 95 in the Holly Oak area, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old woman from Newark.
According to authorities, the crash took place at approximately 8:55 p.m. on the highway, south of Harvey Road.
Police reported that a Volvo truck-tractor pulling a trailer loaded with vehicles was traveling southbound on the interstate when a Chrysler 200 traveling northbound crossed over the grass median separating the lanes of travel. The Chrysler then collided head-on with the Volvo in the southbound lanes.
Investigators stated that the 19-year-old driver of the Chrysler was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. She was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment, but later succumbed to her injuries. Her name has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
The driver of the Volvo, a 34-year-old man from New York, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Due to the severity of the crash and the need for a thorough investigation, Interstate 95 was closed for approximately six hours while authorities documented the scene and cleared debris.
