Lincoln, DE (October 19, 2025) – A 68-year-old man from Portsmouth, Virginia, lost his life following a three-vehicle crash that occurred Friday afternoon, October 17, at the intersection of Dupont Boulevard and Johnson Road in Lincoln.
According to information released by the Delaware State Police, the incident took place at approximately 2:00 p.m. when a Hyundai Sonata traveling northbound on Dupont Boulevard approached the intersection with Johnson Road. A Honda Accord was traveling directly behind the Hyundai, while a Freightliner tanker-truck was moving westbound on Johnson Road toward the same intersection.
Investigators reported that the Hyundai slowed for a yellow or red traffic signal. The Honda failed to slow down in time and struck the rear of the Hyundai. The impact propelled the Hyundai into the intersection, where it collided with the side of the westbound Freightliner.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported the driver of the Hyundai to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Authorities have not released the victim’s name pending notification of his family. The driver of the Honda, a 27-year-old man from Milford, and the driver of the Freightliner, a 58-year-old man from Dover, were not injured.
The roadway remained closed for approximately four hours while troopers conducted their investigation and cleared debris from the crash site. The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to examine the events that led to the fatal crash, including traffic signal timing and driver inattention as potential contributing factors.
