Newark, DE (March 11, 2025) – A fire injury broke out on March 9 in Newark’s Brookside Park neighborhood, leaving three individuals injured. The incident, reported by the Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder Company, occurred around 10:30 p.m. at Chaucer Drive.

According to NCCEMS Public Information Officer Leslie Antonelli-Hobbs, firefighters from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder, along with several mutual aid companies, were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews confirmed an active blaze engulfing the residence and immediately initiated firefighting and rescue operations.

Emergency medical personnel evaluated the injured on-site before transporting them to Christiana Hospital in Stanton for further treatment. An approximately 86-year-old female suffered severe smoke inhalation and facial burns and was listed in serious condition. A 68-year-old female also sustained significant smoke inhalation injuries and was transported in serious condition. A 65-year-old male who suffered minor injuries was transported in stable condition by University of Delaware EMS.

Firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control while ensuring the safety of surrounding homes. Authorities managed traffic in the area to facilitate emergency response and prevent further risks. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Responding units included New Castle County Paramedics, Christiana Fire Co., Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder Co., Cranston Heights Fire Co., University of Delaware EMS, Singerly Fire Co., and Mill Creek Fire Co.

Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
