Smyrna, DE (June 1, 2024) – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash that took place in Smyrna on Thursday, May 30th. The incident happened around 1:00 p.m. on South Dupont Highway.
According to the Delaware State Police, a 69-year-old man was operating a Jeep Cherokee, along with his 59-year-old female passenger. The Cherokee arrived at a stop sign along Dupont Highway. It then entered the intersection and collided with a southbound Harley Davidson motorcycle that was traveling in the left-hand lanes of the roadway. The motorcyclist, who was not immediately identified, suffered critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Both occupants of the Jeep were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The road was closed for about three hours while police investigated the crash and cleared the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit. No further information has been released at this time.
