Georgetown, DE (September 26, 2023) – Multiple people were hurt in a school bus crash that took place in Georgetown on Tuesday, September 26th. The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Route 9 between Sussex Tech and Route 113.
According to a report from the Delaware State Police, a school bus with the Indian River School District was traveling on Route 9 when the driver came to a flashing red traffic signal. The school bus stopped at the signal and was rear-ended by a 2015 Volkswagen Passat that failed to stop for the traffic signal. The driver of the Passat, a 17-year-old girl from Laurel was treated at a hospital for minor injuries. Three students aboard the bus were also taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. No one involved in the accident has been identified.
The road was closed for several hours following the collision. Motorists were told to avoid the area and to find alternate routes of travel. There is no word on whether any charges are expected.
