New Castle, DE - Multiple Hurt in Serious Crash on Rte. 896

New Castle, DE (October 20, 2022) – The Delaware State Police were dispatched to the scene of a serious car accident on Thursday, October 20th. The accident took place around 11:30 a.m. on Route 896 just north of Interstate 95.

According to a report from the scene, a car had just exited the ramp from I-95 to travel onto Route 896. The car attempted an illegal U-turn in the southbound lanes of the road. The car was struck by an oncoming SUV and then a third vehicle before all of the vehicles came to rest. A total of five people were hurt in the collision. At least two of the victims sustained critical injuries. The identities of those involved have not been released at this time. It is not clear if any charges will be filed. The southbound lanes of the road were closed while an investigation was conducted. During this time, motorists were asked to avoid the area.

No further details have been released.
