Police ID Driver Killed in Crash on Old Furnace Rd in Georgetown, DE

Georgetown, DE (June 21, 2026) – On Saturday, June 20, authorities identified the man killed in a three-vehicle wreck near Georgetown as 52-year-old Jon Jefferson of Lincoln, Delaware.

The deadly collision happened on Friday morning, June 19, on Old Furnace Road. According to investigators, Jefferson was driving a Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Old Furnace Road, west of Rementer Road, around 7:20 a.m. His truck crossed the center line, sideswiped a Toyota Sienna, and then hit a Nissan Rogue head-on.

Jefferson died at the crash scene. Emergency crews took the drivers of the Toyota and Nissan to a local hospital for treatment.

Officials did not release their conditions in the first report. The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate why the Silverado entered the opposite lane. More details may be released as the investigation develops.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Jon Jefferson. We also wish the injured drivers a full recovery.

What Legal Options Do Families Have After a Fatal Crash in Georgetown, DE?

Police ID Driver Killed in Crash on Old Furnace RdFamilies may file a wrongful death claim after a fatal crash in Georgetown. This claim can help surviving relatives seek funeral costs, lost financial support, and loss of companionship. It also gives families a legal path to pursue accountability.

In Georgetown and across Sussex County, rural roads can create serious risks. Old Furnace Road and similar routes carry commuters, work trucks, farm vehicles, and local traffic. When a vehicle crosses the center line, others may have little time to react.

Head-on and multi-vehicle crashes often harm more than one family. One person may die, while others may face hospital care and missed work. Injured drivers and passengers may also seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain.

After a fatal crash, families should collect key records early. Police reports, witness details, medical records, insurance letters, and photos can help explain what happened. These records become harder to gather once vehicles, roads, and memories change.

For families considering a wrongful death case, timing matters. Delaware generally gives families two years from the date of death to file. Missing that deadline can prevent compensation, even when the case is otherwise valid.

Legal questions can feel hard to manage after a sudden death. A wrongful death lawyer can review the report, preserve evidence, handle insurers, and check whether another party may share fault. Early legal help can also protect the family from missed deadlines.
