Main Roads in Delmar, DE: Key Highways and Traffic Routes in Sussex County
Delmar sits in a unique location along the Delaware–Maryland border, and its roadway network reflects its role as a small but important connector for regional travel. The town’s main roads provide access to nearby cities while also supporting local traffic through residential and commercial areas.
The most significant roadway in Delmar is U.S. Route 13, commonly known as Sussex Highway. This major north–south corridor runs directly through the town and serves as a key route for commuters and commercial traffic traveling between Delaware and Maryland. It connects Delmar to larger cities like Dover to the north and Salisbury to the south, making it a vital transportation link in Sussex County.
Another important route is Delaware Route 54, also known locally as State Street. This east–west roadway acts as Delmar’s “main street” and crosses the state line, linking the Delaware and Maryland sides of the town. It intersects with U.S. Route 13 near the center of Delmar, forming one of the area’s primary traffic junctions.
Additional local roads, such as Bi-State Boulevard (MD 675) and Old Stage Road, help distribute traffic through neighborhoods and provide access to businesses and residential areas. These roads also connect back to the main highways, improving overall mobility within the town.
Together, these main roads in Delmar, DE create a simple but efficient transportation network that supports both local travel and regional connectivity.
As you can see, Delmar’s main roads connect and carry daily traffic along busy routes like Sussex Highway or State Street. Unfortunately, this hectic traffic activity can lead to all sorts of incidents, namely motor vehicle accidents.
