Emergency units arrived at the scene and transported both Newark drivers to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the Jeep, identified as Anthony Curry, later died from his injuries. The condition of the second driver has not been confirmed.
The driver of the Subaru was not hurt in the collision. Authorities have not shared further details about what may have caused the crash.
Officials continue to investigate the cause of the accident. We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the family and loved ones of the man who lost his life.
How Do Multi-Vehicle Crashes Happen on Divided Highways?
Multi-vehicle crashes on divided highways often begin when one driver loses control or crosses into opposing lanes. Roads like Route 896 carry steady traffic in both directions, which raises the risk of chain-reaction accidents.
Even a brief lapse in attention or a sudden movement can quickly involve several vehicles. These situations can unfold in seconds, leaving little time for others to react.
These types of crashes often lead to serious injuries due to repeated impacts. People may suffer head injuries, broken bones, or internal damage that is not immediately visible.
Some may notice soreness or stiffness hours later. This is why medical checks after a crash can help identify issues early and guide follow-up care.
Determining fault in a multi-vehicle collision can be more complex than in a two-car crash. A wrongful death lawyer can review reports, medical records, and other documents to help explain what happened.
Legal guidance may also help clarify how insurance coverage applies and what types of compensation may be available depending on the situation.
