Wilmington, DE – Serious Injuries Reported in Three-Vehicle Crash on N. DuPont Hwy near Frenchtown Rd

Wilmington, DE (December 28, 2025) – Emergency crews responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving heavy entrapment in the 100 block of North DuPont Highway on Saturday evening, December 27. The crash, which occurred at approximately 6:08 p.m., prompted a large multi-agency response and led to the closure of the roadway as rescue operations were carried out.

According to information provided by responding fire and emergency officials, crews from Wilmington Manor Fire Company Station 33, the Delaware Air Guard Fire Department, Goodwill Fire Company, Minquadale Fire Company Station 22, and Holloway Terrace Fire Company were dispatched to the scene. New Castle County paramedics and the Delaware State Police Aviation Section, Trooper 4, also responded to assist with medical care and transport.

Rescue Squad 32 was the first unit to arrive at the scene and confirmed that three vehicles were involved in the collision. Officials reported that one of the vehicles had overturned as a result of the crash. Two occupants were found to be heavily trapped inside the damaged vehicles, requiring immediate extrication by rescue personnel.

Firefighters and rescue crews initiated complex extrication operations using specialized equipment to reach and remove the trapped individuals safely. Due to the severity of the vehicle damage and the condition of the occupants, the rescue effort required careful coordination among multiple agencies. Paramedics remained on standby throughout the process to provide medical care as soon as the patients were freed.

Emergency medical personnel evaluated the injured individuals at the scene. A second advanced life support ground unit was requested to assist with patient care, highlighting the seriousness of the incident. Trooper 4 was utilized to support medical operations, although officials have not released details regarding whether an air transport ultimately occurred. The extent and nature of the injuries sustained in the crash have not been publicly disclosed.

To ensure the safety of responders and allow rescue operations to proceed without interference, North DuPont Highway was shut down in the area of Frenchtown Road. The Delaware Department of Transportation and Zone 3 Fire Police were requested to assist with traffic control and scene management. Motorists were advised to expect major delays and seek alternate routes while crews worked to clear the scene.

Authorities have not released information regarding the cause of the crash or the sequence of events leading up to the collision. An investigation is expected to review roadway conditions, vehicle positions, and other potential contributing factors. Further details may be provided as officials continue their assessment.

We extend our best wishes to those injured in this crash and hope they experience a swift and complete recovery.

Motor Vehicle Collisions on North DuPont Highway

North DuPont Highway is a major roadway serving the Wilmington area, carrying a steady flow of commuter, commercial, and local traffic. Due to its high traffic volume and frequent intersections, collisions along this corridor can be particularly severe, especially during evening hours when visibility may be reduced and traffic congestion increases.Serious Injuries Reported in Three-Vehicle Crash on N. Serious crashes involving multiple vehicles often result in significant vehicle damage and an increased risk of entrapment. When occupants are unable to exit their vehicles without assistance, injuries are frequently more severe. Common injuries associated with these types of collisions include fractures, spinal injuries, head and brain trauma, internal injuries, and extensive soft tissue damage. Many individuals require emergency medical treatment, hospitalization, and prolonged rehabilitation following such incidents.

Beyond the immediate physical harm, motor vehicle accidents can impose long-term financial burdens on those involved. Medical expenses may include emergency care, surgical procedures, hospital stays, physical therapy, and future treatment needs. Injured individuals may also experience lost wages or reduced earning capacity if they are unable to return to work for an extended period or at all.

Motor vehicle collisions on busy roadways are often associated with factors such as distracted driving, speeding, failure to yield, following too closely, and poor visibility. When multiple vehicles are involved, determining responsibility can be complex and typically requires a thorough investigation into driver actions, roadway design, and environmental conditions at the time of the crash.

Individuals injured in serious motor vehicle collisions may have the option to pursue compensation for their losses through an injury claim. Depending on the circumstances, damages that may be sought can include medical costs, lost income, reduced future earnings, and expenses related to long-term care or disability.
