Two Pedestrians Hurt in Crash Near Coastal Hwy & New Orleans St

Dewey Beach, DE (May 3, 2026) – Two pedestrians were injured in a crash on Sunday, May 3, in Dewey Beach. The crash occurred just before 2:00 a.m. near Coastal Highway and New Orleans Street.

Emergency units responded after receiving reports of the crash. When crews arrived, they found one person down in the roadway.

A 23-year-old woman reportedly suffered head injuries and was airlifted by Delaware State Police Aviation to Christiana Emergency Room for further treatment. A male pedestrian with a leg injury was transported to Beebe Hospital in stable condition.

The roadway remained closed for more than two hours while crews cleared the area. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.

Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrians, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.

Common Injuries in Pedestrian Accidents in Dewey Beach, DE

Two Pedestrians Hurt in Crash Near Coastal Hwy & New Orleans StPedestrian accidents in Dewey Beach can cause head injuries, leg injuries, broken bones, back and spinal injuries, soft tissue injuries, internal injuries, and emotional trauma. These injuries can affect how a person walks, works, sleeps, and handles daily tasks.

Head injuries are a serious concern after a pedestrian crash. A person may suffer a concussion or other head trauma after hitting the vehicle, pavement, or another surface. Symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, nausea, or headaches should receive prompt medical attention.

Leg injuries can also happen when a vehicle strikes a pedestrian. The impact may injure the knees, ankles, hips, or lower legs. Some victims may need emergency care, imaging tests, follow-up visits, and physical therapy.

Broken bones are also common in pedestrian accidents. Arms, wrists, ribs, hips, and legs may suffer fractures during the crash or fall. These injuries can limit movement and make daily activities difficult.

Back and spinal injuries can create long-term problems after a pedestrian accident. A sudden impact can strain muscles, damage discs, or affect nerves. Even mild back pain should be checked by a doctor to rule out more serious harm.

Soft tissue injuries may affect the neck, shoulders, knees, and ankles. These injuries can cause swelling, stiffness, and reduced movement. Early treatment can help reduce pain and support a safer recovery.

Internal injuries can also happen after a pedestrian crash. These injuries may not show clear signs right away, but they can become dangerous without treatment. Doctors can use exams and imaging tests to identify hidden trauma.

Severe pedestrian injuries can create major financial stress for victims and families. Medical bills, missed work, therapy, and travel for treatment can add up quickly. When emergency transport is needed, the cost of care may become even harder to manage.
