Marshallton, DE – Two Injured in House Fire at Evelyn Dr and Hutchison Rd in Dunlinden Acres

Marshallton, DE (March 27, 2026) – On Thursday morning, March 26, emergency crews responded to a residential fire that left two individuals injured in the Dunlinden Acres neighborhood near Marshallton.

Firefighters from the Mill Creek Fire Company were dispatched shortly before 9:00 a.m. to the corner of Evelyn Drive and Hutchison Road, where they arrived to find a home engulfed in flames. Crews worked quickly to contain the blaze and assist those inside the residence.

One victim was removed from the structure and treated at the scene by New Castle County paramedics before being transported to Christiana Hospital with serious injuries. A second victim, who sustained less severe injuries, was also taken to the same hospital for further evaluation and care.

Due to emergency response operations, the westbound Kirkwood Highway was temporarily shut down as fire apparatus connected to a nearby hydrant at the entrance of the development. The closure caused traffic disruptions in the surrounding area while crews worked to manage the situation.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to the scene and is actively investigating the cause of the fire. We hope those injured in this incident make a full and speedy recovery.

How Do Insurance Claims Work After a Residential Fire in Delaware? Two Injured in House Fire at Evelyn Dr and Hutchison Rd in Dunlinden Acres

After a residential fire in Delaware, homeowners and tenants often rely on insurance coverage to help recover from the damage and losses. The claims process typically begins soon after the incident is reported to the insurance company.

In most cases, property insurance policies may cover structural damage to the home, personal belongings, and sometimes additional living expenses if the property becomes uninhabitable. Once a claim is filed, an insurance adjuster is usually assigned to assess the extent of the damage and estimate repair or replacement costs. This evaluation plays a key role in determining how much compensation may be available under the policy.

Policyholders need to document all losses as thoroughly as possible. Photographs, receipts, and inventory lists can help support the claim and ensure that all damaged or destroyed items are accounted for. In some situations, temporary repairs may be necessary to prevent further damage, and these costs may also be reimbursable depending on the policy terms.

While insurance can provide critical financial support, the process may involve delays or disputes over coverage and valuation. Understanding policy details and maintaining clear communication with the insurer can help facilitate a smoother claims experience. In more complex situations, individuals may seek additional guidance to ensure their claim is handled fairly and in accordance with Delaware law.

If you or a loved one has been affected by a residential fire, speaking with a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can help you better understand your rights and options.
