Vehicle Crash at 9th St & Walnut St Turns Fatal

Wilmington, DE (March 22, 2026) – A crash at the intersection of 9th Street and Walnut Street killed three people on Sunday, March 22, in Wilmington. Officers responded shortly after 4:15 a.m. following reports of a serious accident in the area.

Witnesses said a second vehicle struck a car at the intersection. When police arrived, they found three occupants in one vehicle who had suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Emergency units confirmed all three victims died at the crash location.

Authorities identified the victims as a 48-year-old man, a 41-year-old man, and a 35-year-old woman. Police have not released additional details about the victims at this time.

Police identified Nicholas Resto, 30, as the driver of the second vehicle involved in the collision. Officers took him into custody and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

According to investigators, Resto faces three counts of manslaughter along with charges related to driving under the influence and several traffic violations. Officers secured the scene for several hours while crews documented evidence and cleared the roadway. The Wilmington Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims during this heartbreaking time.

Loss of income can affect a household’s financial stability after a fatal accident. Families may rely on the victim’s earnings for daily living expenses. Compensation may account for lost wages and long-term financial support over time.

Pain and suffering may also be considered in certain cases. This can include the physical impact experienced before death. It may also reflect the broader effect of the loss on surviving family members and daily life.

Loss of consortium addresses the absence of companionship and support. Spouses and close family members may feel the impact in daily life. This type of claim focuses on the relationship that has been lost over time.

Punitive damages may apply in limited situations involving reckless conduct. These damages are not tied to specific losses but may address severe wrongdoing. Courts review each case carefully before awarding this type of compensation when applicable.
