What Should I Do After a Car Accident in Delaware?

Next, contact law enforcement and request an officer. In Sussex County, the Delaware State Police often respond to serious collisions. An official report documents what happened and may help later during insurance discussions.
If you are physically able, gather evidence from the scene. Take photos of vehicle damage, the structure involved, and the surrounding area. Write down the time, weather conditions, and any details you remember.
Exchange contact and insurance information with the other driver. Record names, phone numbers, license plate numbers, and policy details carefully. Keep this information organized for future reference.
Notify your insurance company soon after the accident. Provide clear and accurate facts about when and where it occurred. Keep copies of emails, claim numbers, and related paperwork in one place.
Before agreeing to any settlement, you should contact a car accident lawyer. An attorney can investigate the crash, protect your rights, and communicate with insurance companies on your behalf.
