Millsboro, DE – 73-Year-Old Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Millsboro Hwy Near Mumford Rd.

Millsboro, DE (October 26, 2025) – Authorities with the Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred late Friday morning, October 24, on Millsboro Highway near Mumford Road. According to preliminary reports, the crash involved two vehicles and resulted in the death of a 73-year-old passenger from Millsboro.

The incident took place around 11:00 a.m. when a Mazda traveling northbound on Millsboro Highway stopped in the lane to turn left into a private driveway. An Oldsmobile traveling behind the Mazda attempted to pass on the left for reasons that remain under investigation. As the Mazda began making the turn, the Oldsmobile swerved left, veered off the roadway, and struck two garbage cans before colliding with the left side of the Mazda. The force of the impact pushed the Mazda into a nearby tree.

Authorities reported that the Mazda was being driven by a 69-year-old Millsboro woman who was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated and later released. Her 73-year-old passenger, who was also wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious injuries and was transported for medical care but passed away on Saturday, October 25, as a result of crash-related injuries.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, identified only as a 34-year-old Millsboro man, was also wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. Investigators closed the roadway for approximately two hours as members of the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit examined the scene and collected evidence. Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including why the passing maneuver occurred.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim who lost their life in this tragic crash.

Traffic Collisions in Delaware

According to data from the Delaware Office of Highway Safety, improper passing maneuvers and left-turn collisions are among the leading causes of severe and fatal accidents statewide.73-Year-Old Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Millsboro Hwy Near Mumford Rd.

In most investigations involving fatal crashes, law enforcement agencies focus on several key factors—driver behavior, road conditions, visibility, and potential mechanical issues—to determine liability and identify preventive measures. Even when drivers follow traffic laws, sudden or unpredictable movements by other motorists can result in devastating outcomes.

Families who lose a loved one in a motor vehicle accident may face emotional and financial challenges in the aftermath. In such situations, they are often entitled to seek compensation through a wrongful death claim, which can help cover medical expenses, funeral costs, and other related losses.
