Angola, DE – Fatal SUV and Tractor Trailer Crash at Harts Rd & John J Williams Hwy

Milton, DE - 74-Year-Old Woman Dies in Mulberry St Crash

Angola, DE (August 20, 2025) – A woman tragically lost her life and three others sustained injuries after a crash in Angola on Tuesday, August 19. The collision involved a compact SUV and a tractor trailer.

According to Delaware State Police, the incident occurred around 1:55 p.m. on Harts Rd at John J Williams Hwy. A Honda CRV carrying four occupants stopped at a stop sign before turning left onto the highway. For reasons still under investigation, the SUV entered the path of a westbound Freightliner tractor trailer. The truck struck the driver’s side of the Honda.

The 68-year-old woman from Lewes, a passenger in the back seat, was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from her injuries. Police have not yet released her name, pending notification of her family.

Three other SUV occupants also suffered injuries. The driver, a 78-year-old Lewes man, and a 36-year-old Lewes woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A 37-year-old woman from Jersey City was critically hurt and remains hospitalized.

The tractor trailer driver, a 64-year-old man from Bowie, Maryland, declined medical treatment at the scene.

Police continue to investigate the factors that led to this devastating collision. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families during this difficult time.

Truck Accidents in Delaware

Truck accidents in Delaware, like the tragic crash in Angola, often cause severe and life-changing consequences. The sheer size and weight of tractor trailers make them especially dangerous in collisions with smaller passenger vehicles. Even at moderate speeds, these crashes canMilton, DE - 74-Year-Old Woman Dies in Mulberry St Crash lead to catastrophic injuries or fatalities.

In recent years, Delaware has faced an increase in motor vehicle collisions. Highways such as Route 1, Route 13, and John J Williams Hwy carry heavy traffic daily. When commercial trucks are involved, the risk of serious harm rises. Victims may suffer traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, broken bones, and internal bleeding. Families often face overwhelming medical expenses and emotional trauma after such accidents.

One of the most common causes of truck accidents in Delaware is failure to yield or misjudging traffic at intersections. Truck drivers and passenger vehicle drivers alike must remain especially cautious in these areas. Fatigue, distraction, and speeding are also leading factors in crashes. Because of the complex nature of commercial trucking regulations, cases involving tractor trailers often require thorough legal investigation.

For injured victims and their families, working with a Delaware car accident lawyer can provide essential support. An attorney can help uncover critical evidence such as driver logs, truck maintenance records, and black box data. This information may determine liability and strengthen a claim. Victims may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, ongoing rehabilitation, and pain and suffering. In cases involving loss of life, families may also pursue wrongful death claims to seek justice and financial recovery.

Truck accidents can happen anywhere, but rural roads like Harts Rd and highways like John J Williams Hwy present unique risks. Limited visibility, high speeds, and heavy truck traffic make these areas particularly dangerous. When collisions occur, legal help can make a meaningful difference for victims and their loved ones.
