Motorcycle Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims in Frederica
Motorcycle accidents continue to pose a serious risk in Delaware, with a notably higher fatality rate compared to other types of vehicle accidents. In 2022, the state recorded 376 motorcycle-related accidents, resulting in 21 fatalities and over 250 injuries. Key factors contributing to these crashes include speeding, alcohol impairment, and drivers failing to yield the right of way. Riders aged 20–29 and 50–59 are particularly at risk, with these age groups showing higher accident rates.
To address this issue, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety has launched campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of helmet use, safe speeds, and riding sober. Statewide safety patrols are also conducted to enforce these safety laws and improve road conditions for both motorcyclists and other drivers. In the event of a fatal motorcycle accident caused by negligence, families can file wrongful death claims to seek compensation for their losses. These claims cover expenses such as funeral costs, lost wages, and emotional distress, though they require proof that the defendant’s actions directly caused the death. Given the complexity of such cases, consulting with an experienced attorney is crucial for navigating the legal process.
