Townsend, DE (February 27, 2025) – A serious two-car injury crash occurred on Tuesday evening in Townsend, leaving two elderly women injured, one critically. The collision happened at approximately 5:05 p.m. at the intersection of DuPont Pkwy and Harris Rd, prompting an emergency response from multiple agencies.
According to New Castle County EMS, a 77-year-old woman was trapped in her car for approximately 15 minutes before being extricated by fire department crews. She suffered critical abdominal, chest, and possible internal injuries. Paramedics provided emergency treatment at the scene before Delaware State Police Aviation airlifted her to Christiana Hospital.
An 81-year-old woman also sustained serious injuries, including extremity and back injuries, as well as possible internal trauma. She was transported to Christiana Hospital by a Volunteer Hose Co. ambulance, with paramedics attending to her en route.
A third individual, a male, declined medical treatment at the scene. Authorities temporarily shut down the intersection to clear debris and investigate the cause of the crash. Delaware State Police continue to investigate the incident.
