Dover, DE (November 20, 2024) – An injury pedestrian crash occurred on Tuesday evening on North DuPont Highway, just north of Leipsic Road, tragically resulting in the death of a 29-year-old woman. The Dover Police Department responded to the scene shortly after 7:00 p.m. following reports of a female pedestrian hit by a car.
According to the Dover Police Department, the woman was crossing North DuPont Highway from the parking lot of Raceway Liquors, not in a designated crosswalk. She was wearing dark clothing when she was struck by a 2004 Nissan Titan pickup truck traveling northbound in the leftmost lane. The truck, driven by a 17-year-old male, hit the pedestrian in the travel lane. The driver of the truck immediately pulled into a nearby parking lot and called his parents, where he was later contacted by responding officers.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but unfortunately, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that the roadway was closed for several hours while police and fire crews investigated the accident, cleared the scene, and controlled traffic. Firefighters assisted in securing the vehicles involved.
The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time. The 17-year-old driver was not injured during the incident.
