Lewes, DE (April 16, 2022) – Police in Lewes responded to the scene of a deadly car accident on Friday, April 16th. The collision was reported at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Lewes-Georgetown Highway near the intersection with Ebb Tide Drive.
The Delaware State Police was dispatched to the crash. According to a report from officials, a 2012 Honda CR-V was traveling eastbound on Lewes-Georgetown Highway. As the Honda approached the intersection, it failed to slow down for stopped traffic. The driver of the Honda swerved to avoid a crash and went into the westbound lanes of the highway. While in the westbound lanes, the Honda collided nearly head-on with a Dodge Ram. The Honda then overturned and struck a utility pole.
Rescue officials arrived at the scene and treated several people for injuries. Four occupants of the Honda were transported to a local hospital where two of them were listed in critical condition. Two others were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A fifth victim died at the scene. Police have not identified any of the victims. The driver of the Ram sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation at this time. No further details have been released.
